Welcome to the Physics 3 web page. At Swarthmore Physics 3 is usually taken by students such as pre-medical, chemistry and engineering majors. It is a course in classical Newtonian mechanics including waves and fluids.

I have chosen a concise new text – indeed it is probably the least massive and least expensive text for this subject ever. It is Essential University Physics by Richard Wolfson, Pearson Addison Wesley, publishers

For those who like to “curl up” on a chill fall evening with a more conversationally narrative exposition of the subject, I will put a couple traditional texts of that type on reserve in Cornell Library. Please see the links below for an introduction addressing specifics of the course such as meeting times, grading breakdown, the laboratory, my coordinates, etc.  A proposed syllabus is also linked below. The links to the individual homework assignments will become active as they are assigned.
